Creating accessible PDFs from InDesign

Completing the course will provide you with all the know-how to produce the most accessible source documents possible.


No prior knowledge of accessibility issues is required in order to complete this course. However, delegates will need to have a good working knowledge of InDesign, prior to attending the course.

Available for InDesign versions CS4, CS5, CS5.5, CS6 or CC. Topics include:

  • Accessibility overview and relevant standards
  • Understanding InDesign version differences
  • Applying structure with headings, lists, hyperlinks…
  • Images, alt text, and handling charts effectively
  • Designing tables for accessibility and usability
  • Colour contrast and colour blindness
  • Creating accessible backgrounds
  • Dealing with transparencies
  • Text formatting and font encoding issues and techniques
  • Dealing with mathematical expressions (optional)
  • Setting reading order (Articles panel and stacking order)
  • Bookmarks and tables of contents, issues and techniques
  • Understanding the limitations of InDesign’s interactivity features
  • Document management
